Had 3 others look at it and the only thing we could come up with is the black cap on the plumbing in the basement in the picture below was loose?Īny help is appreciated, it smells like a damn sewage plant in my house. I am a complete noob when it comes to plumbing and only going by what I've read on the Internet. The black cap on this was loose, so I tightened it up, could it being loose have caused the smell? It didn't start to smell like this until the last few weeks, and I bought the home last fall, so I'm not sure why it would just now start to smell. Is this where the vent should have been ran? Is this a replacement for a vent? Did the original builder skip out on putting a vent in? Get on the roof (haven't owned house long) and there is no vent to be found. Researched it and all points to the vent being clogged with debris. Once and a while I'll put the toilet seat up and the water is below normal level. The toilet randomly has bubbles escape through sometimes when no one has used the toilet.

More research said to clean the vent on the roof. Didn't help running water in every sink in the house. Thought the p traps in my other sinks could be dried up from the heat and the smell was escaping from sewage that way because I am barely home and don't use the kitchen sink or wash clothes at home often. Bought new p trap and thought problem was fixed, but a few days later the smell was right back. House smelled like sewage, found out girlfriend knocked what must have been a loose P-trap off under the bathroom sink when putting cleaning supplies away.
